I can’t get to that page, so I asked a question about the contents.
Someone here is being silly, we just disagree about who.

Even in AI dystopia female representation at the executive level is nonexistent.

Lots of idol worship in the dev community, question the current darling and people get upset.

For clarity: I didn’t write the article, it’s just a good reference.

The cost here only really impacts regular users, too. The type of users you actually want to block have budgets which easily allow for the compute needed anyways.

There’s a caddy config out there that works as well as Anubis without the catgirls and mining: https://fxgn.dev/blog/anubis/

I can’t access the page to validate this because I don’t allow JS; isn’t that gated behind a paywall?

I feel comfortable hating on Anubis for this. The compute cost per validation is vanishingly small to someone with the existing budget to run a cloud scraping farm, it’s just another cost of doing business.
The cost to actual users though, particularly to lower income segments who may not have compute power to spare, is annoyingly large. There are plenty of complaints out there about Anubis being painfully slow on old or underpowered devices.
Some of us do actually prefer to use the internet minus JS, too.
Plus the minor irritation of having anime catgirls suddenly be a part of my daily browsing.

Counterpoint: Anubis is not awesome: https://lock.cmpxchg8b.com/anubis.html
This is an excellent clarification, thanks.
Fuck LLMs, though.

Mando season one and two and all of Andor was fantastic. Obi-wan was passable and fun.
All the rest of it doesn’t exist.

The person you’re responding to has clearly never been in charge of hosting a mail server. That shit is absolutely not worth it.
Free email sounds good until you realize you’re paying for it by letting them peruse your mail to scrape out ad data and feed their LLMs.
I’m pretty happy to pay a small fee to avoid both of the above.

It doesn’t help that the last season was terrible.
Fun western styled isolated adventures? No! Epic tie in to all the rest of the dumb new SW storyline!

30 years and you haven’t figured out that hosting anything online costs money?
That cost is getting recovered, one way or another. I’d prefer to just pay for it, personally, rather than have my entire identity be commoditized.

I get the point, but I just don’t agree with it.
For example: I put some thought into finding a final fantasy 14 guild to help with putting together parties for content (so I don’t need to wait 40+ minutes for less common but mandatory ones) but virtually all the ones I found were “discord required”.
I just want someone to play content with occasionally, not a full time, always on community that demands I engage with it all the time.

Makes sense, seems like most guilds now require discord. I just have no interest in being beholden to another enshitified service.

Discord required
Nope.

Of course he can’t, he’s too much of a loser to eat shit and die. He couldn’t manage it.
Eat shit? Maybe. But eat shit and die? No sir. No way. I won’t believe it unless I see it for myself.

Think I’m good with those 4.
Throw in Math Blaster so I can pretend to value humanity or something.
Heads up, you’re really invested in arguing with someone who does not appear to be arguing in good faith. Just block them and move on, you will be a happier person for it.
