parents who don’t parent

stayed in a hotel recently during a hockey tournament. kids were banging on doors and intentionally hitting the same door more than once. they knocked paint off the interior of my door frame doing this, because they hit it extra hard due to the do not disturb sign.

I took a walk after a while and noticed that this behaviour was clearly visible from the lobby where the parents were hanging out, you could hear the banging sounds echoing through the stairwell fifteen feet away.

I was very close to losing my shit on them, but I didn’t want it to be worse the next day

*okay, not totally better, as they didn’t say media. but my point is that they mentioned making the noise rather than using headphones, because using headphones isn’t the only solution, turning the goddamn volume down or off is also valid

they won’t get along. one has the next room in darkness, and the other in harsh white light.

I stopped looking into much new stuff beyond word of mouth, last I played was Neither, I think, and it was very disappointing that that didn’t go anywhere. neat that you can still run a server, though

I purge them as often as I can, but my phone has some tab groups that just stay up perpetually because it’s convenient, and it’s not like they’re actually all loaded at once. for example I have a few tab groups on vehicle maintenance topic or two that I am slowly working on. chrome on android has tab groups that basically functions as a favourites menu

but yeah on a computer, I have about a dozen core tabs for work that stay pinned on one window at all times, and then I add 1-3 other windows throughout the day as I work. one or two might just be a couple tabs each for comparing stuff. one might be a temp window for tasks somebody asked me to look into when I have a couple spare minutes. one might be a bunch of tabs doing research on something. but they either get processed and completed, or written down to deal with another day, I don’t keep them up until the next day unless I’m really just over work that day lol

making mods anonymous was such a mistake

can’t wait to move to a new system

• because I’m working on multiple tasks at once, and some of those tasks require comparing things like data sheets or products or reading multiple documents

• because I don’t want to dig up the thing I was looking at yesterday with a 10-tab group, but I also ran out of time yesterday to complete the task

• because I can and it’s convenient

• because I keep something open until I have dealt with it, so it functions as a task list

tbh I’d rather drive by a 2010 car with high beams on than a 2020 car with lowbeam LEDs

and have done many times, it’s hilarious to be able to see better when a 2008 Corolla is coming towards me with high beams on that are perfectly adequate for lighting up the highway at speed, and a 2020 Corolla goes by after it and I can’t see the fucking road at all or anything around it or even where the 2020 car exactly is

this is so a pre-2010s problem

the new problem is LED headlights. I nearly hit somebody last week because I went when the light turned green and somebody was walking across the intersection on the other side, but completely invisible until the last second because of some asshole on the other side with LED headlights
