Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who are some widely loved fictional characters that would be hated if they were real?
13·15 days agoI think Fry would be kind of annoying too.
This is what reading East of Eden has been like so far.
Shouldn’t “worm” replace “man” in “Samantha”? If we’re incorporating our species into our names.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can't we (states) ignore clock changes without the federal government? The federal government doesn't seem to care about standing laws.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best way to ease getting back in shape after years of little to no exercise?
1·1 month agoSeconding walking. I had gained 40lbs and eased back into fitness slowly over 2 years. My issue with hiking is the prep time and driving and felt like extra steps. Stepping out the door with a good podcast on was the most accessible for me (recognize that I’m lucky to live in a place with sidewalks and some paths). If the nature part of hiking makes it more interesting to you though and more likely to follow through, go for that!

16·1 month agoSometimes I feel we should be writing these numbers out fully. That’s something worth $4,000,000,000,000 that’s not paying anything substantial to improve your life. If they paid $400M in taxes they’d still be worth about $4T.

I disagree, I think it should be rememember.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The "Nothing to hide" argument is (still) a logical fallacy
14·1 month agoJohn Oliver did a good bit on this with Edward Snowden. He advocated that the messaging should be “do you want the government to have access to your dick pics.” Surveyed people on the street that didn’t seem to care less about privacy but as soon as they started thinking about their dick pics being available to the government… the tone changed.
