Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anybody familiar with optician work able to tell me if this optician was lying?
2·1 year agoCorrect. In Canada your eyes and your teeth are not part of your body apparently. They are not covered by health care. (Routine stuff anyways, some surgery’s could possibly covered, not 100% sure).
Free test with purchase of glasses, and obviously not giving out prescription, is completely reasonable. Unfortunately that is not what’s happening in Canada.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anybody familiar with optician work able to tell me if this optician was lying?
15·1 year agoAll eye care in Canada is private. As far as I know I’ve never heard of anyone offering eye exams for free. It’s usually $150-$200. For some people the government covers the fee, but it’s still a private practice and they get their money. Zero reason they can withhold the prescription.

36·1 year agoI’m 99.9% sure they have to give it to you and are just being scummy. You paid for the eye exam. You are entitled to the results.

General Discussion@lemmy.world•Every company should be owned by its employees
1·1 year agoWhat if there was just a law to cap the compensation in that the highest compensation must be at most 10x (Or whatever a reasonable number may be). If your lowest paid salary is 50k, the max salary for CEO would be 500k. If the CEO wants more money, everyone needs to get more money.
I could have spent an hour coming up with the perfect solitaire joke just for it to be topped by this banger.

2·2 years agoJust wait until you see people clearing snow with a leaf blower, cause they are too lazy to shovel. It’s ridiculous.
You’re absolutely spot on. Unfortunately no one here is willing to accept it.
If everyone I’ve ever heard use the word thinks it’s jive, at what point does that become correct? Isn’t that how language works?
I’ve only ever heard it called jive

Linux@lemmy.ml•is there any program to force a linux based OS or a mac to only use outlet power and not battery power, even if I cannot physically remove the battery?
41·2 years agoThe bottom is quite easy to take off, just some screws around the perimeter and you’re in. You can unplug the battery pretty easily but it’s harder to remove as it’s glued down. Also I’m pretty sure MacBooks severely underclock the processor if there’s no battery so your performance may suffer. Been through the same thing with my 2013 MacBook Pro. It’s a Linux mint server now.
I’m not 100% sure but which power source you are using, and whether or not the battery seems more like a BIOS or SMC thing, so I’m not sure if even Linux would be able to access it. I could also be totally wrong
It’s all done on-device
I just tried with the default files app. You can definitely rename file extensions.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you all have any tips on activities to do yourself, instead of consuming content all the time?
8·2 years agoRock Climbing/Bouldering. It’s great exercise, I throw in my earbuds, do my own thing, it’s a lot of fun. Don’t worry about being out of shape there are routes for all skill levels
Spacial Audio is another one. When watching a movie with headphones the sound always seems like is coming from the device. If you turn your head to the left, your right earbud becomes slightly louder, creating the illusion that the sound is coming from the screen. It’s pretty neat actually.

Unless you know they are religious definitely avoid saying “they are in a better place now”.
