  • Everyone loves Bazzite, and they’re probably all right, but it did not run very well on my old gaming laptop.
Since people often mention Linux (in general) as being a good OS for older hardware, I thought this anecdote might be a helpful perspective to some.
I tried two or three other distros on that laptop, and they all ran fine as expected. I assume Bazzite has some higher system requirements to power its cool features.

  • Yeah, when I tried basic Ubuntu about a year ago, it must not have liked something about my two monitors or Nvidia GPU.
The whole desktop was shitting itself, and at one point I could see my mouse on one monitor but the clicks were taking place on the other monitor. It’s a nightmare to debug things when you can’t accurately click any windows or buttons.
Endeavor and Pop both worked out of the box.

  • First time I installed Linux was maybe two years ago, and I watched a video that basically told me it’s best to start with something simple and install things as you need them, so I got plain ol Ubuntu.
Well it turns out it’s really hard to get basic shit working when basic shit doesn’t work. I was having some crazy dual monitor problems.
I’ve tried Pop and Endeavor now and I’m much happier.
