The story I heard in a medeival history class about the origin of the handshake is that it’s a sign that you don’t mean to attack the other person because you’re not holding a weapon in your hand

At last they still have bagels!
Ironic!

I’ll see your “Cones of Dunshire”, and raise you this actually real, published game: https://youtu.be/bE7f0ehPUAM

Sure thing! I won’t pretend to be knowledgeable about the differences in hardware between like a Lenovo and a Framework. I actually intended to buy a Lenovo but I was shopping for a made-for-Linux laptop when Lenovo happened not to be selling them (they had been before and I guess they are again now). The appeal of the Framework was entirely the upgradability

I’m also making the slow transition from Apple to Linux, and I (relatively) recently bought a Framework 13. I went with kind of a minimum-specs loadout, figuring I didn’t really know what I was getting into and I could upgrade it later (the primary selling point of Framework). I’ve been satisfied with running Fedora/Gnome on it for several months. I get the impression that the distro is more important than the hardware in terms of having a comfortable MacOS-to-Linux experience. But because Framework explicitly supports Fedora, I felt like it was a smaller step away from the walled garden, “it just works” experience of being a Mac user team just going straight to a distro and manufacturer that was likely to require a lot more manual setup and knowledge.
I use it to wake my computer up when the display is off.
19 miles is not far enough

I hope the typo above doesn’t prevent anyone interested from discovering this excellent genre. It’s “Explosions in the Sky”.
Tenforward has been one of the biggest unexpected delights over the last year or so since migrating to Lemmy from Reddit

This was what I thought the OP was talking about at first. It took me a minute to remember that urban legend from the 90s.

Aww, bummer. I’m sure I could get a PS2 emulator up and running, but I don’t think it would be worth it just for Burnout 3

Classic! I should re-buy this on steam so I can play it again.
My only issue with this is that it’s been posted in the Lemmy Shitpost community, and it’s not shit at all.

I heard that story as part of the Behind the Bastards series on Vince McMahon. It was an excellent and very entertaining four- or five-episode series.

I started getting treated for ADHD at age 45. I confronted my mom about how she and my dad treated me when I was young, constantly berating and punishing me for “not living up to my potential”, “not caring enough about school”, “not applying myself”, and explained that my behavior was almost certainly undiagnosed ADHD.
She was like, “Yeah. I know, right?”

I feel this. It’s exactly as condescending as “naive” and means basically the same thing.

For me it feels like complete inability to focus on anything or to recall specific concepts (like not being able to think of a word).
This is a super interesting thread because I wonder if what I’m experiencing is even brain fog at all, or just ADHD. And I also wonder how other folks know when they’re feeling brain fog.
Like, do any of you have a test for yourself to know when you’re feeling brain fog (or inversely, a test to be sure you’re not)?

I think a lot of folks hate Windows and are intimidated by, or don’t want to be inconvenienced by Linux.
This comic is not exactly representative of Rory Blank’s work in content, but it is representative in tone.
