Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux phones are more important now than everEnglish
31·4 months agoBecause the license allows the closing of the code whenever a coder wants. BSD has that problem. It gives so much freedom that it can go against freedom itself. Microsoft took Kerberos (BSD), forked it and extended it. The MS fork gained ground against the BSD one and MS closed the source when its fork was the most used, pushing out the original BSD version.
Monroe doctrine? War against Spain?

Have you tried Dolphin?
It would be fun if your next “I need Windows” OS was ReactOS and have less problems than using Windows.
Have you tried some of the dual panel file managers that run on Linux? What Directory Opus has that is not in other FM?
I think it should be the default if you don’t use parameters. A little usage help and the list of commands (with a “do you want to see the list of commands? (Y/n)” message)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is "mythology" in the public domain in the first place?
39·4 months agoIf by mythology you mean ancient mythos, then it’s because copyright expires and works made before some date (in the past century) are not covered by it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How can we make the Fediverse more positive and wholesome?English
2·5 months agoYes and no. Mastodon and Lemmy and Pixelfed and Peertube and FunkWhale and… have different uses but can be mixed. It would be a dream to have all in the same place so you can have a tab to upload images, another for videos, another for news, another for microblogging, another for DM (Matrix? XMPP?), another for short videos (Loops), … Just like FB has in some way.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How can we make the Fediverse more positive and wholesome?
13·5 months agoI’ll go for the technical side: having a distributed accounts manager so you only need one account to use every aspect of the Fediverse.
Just like COBOL
Good luck with a HP laptop. They don’t like much dual boring.

It’s amazingly stupid having those prices. DVD should cost the same as Bluray and both should cost $25 max. After all, a DVD and a Bluray are two technologies far past their ROI date.
