With guitars, lately it’s been about made in the US/Japan/Europe vs Made in Mexico/China/Korea, or digital vs solid-state vs tubes, but essentially the same. Everyone’s being marketed to, and it doesn’t matter which you choose, you will end up spending just as much money. Best thing to do is get the gear you like, and spend time with said gear(/get off the net and marketplace). Not different from gaming.
Any hobby that costs money will have factions. Camera gear has your Sony vs Nikon vs Canon, you have Android vs Apple for mobile phones, etc. The more money you spend, the more you speak out against other choices. As evidenced by this post, PC parts cost a lot of money…

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If AI was all it was cracked up to be, it wouldn't be shoved in your face 24/7
1·29 days agoI transport you to the time of NFTs and crypto. Not all tech will pan out. Computers and the internet fundamentally worked. LLMs have flaws that look like they will not be solved before funding runs out. They are already looking into going public for funding. LLMs are not deterministic models. AI in general will progress and it will have its time to shine. But the LLM breakthrough we had recently has peaked. It needs to be supplemented with something else.

22·30 days ago- Post problem with product that’s not really a problem.
- People instinctively express their dislike of the product.
- Corporate troll posts solution, or inconsistencies with the post. “I’m not really a fan of ___ but this is a you problem. They even have a feature to help with such a problem. You people are overreacting. Did you even read the article? You losers should get a life.”.
- People are now discouraged to express problems with product, even getting sold on a feature.

Games@lemmy.world•More than 1,200 games journalists have left the media in the last two years | VGCEnglish
11·1 month agoThere are still Youtubers out there motivated by the same engagement goals as gaming journalists. Both need you to click the link. With Youtubers, you can at least identify what games they like, and would know more about those specific type of games.

5·2 months agoThe meat of the work Valve did was with the compatibility layer, not SteamOS itself. This means you can choose any distro you’re comfortable with and games will work as well as they do in SteamOS. I recommend Bazzite.

2·2 months agoMy MP3s have moved from 1 device to another. I paid for the physical copies years ago (also some friends “shared” other songs), and I still only buy MP3s.

They could not do a prediction before they booked the flight nor when they scheduled the event? So their powers are limited to same-day predictions? Probably low-level NPCs.
I kind of wanted to see memes on the memes community, but maybe the moderation is a bit too loose…
After a while, you realize this place is not perfect either. Too much Linux (although I’m on Linux now), too much “voter suppression” messages from the left (which I’m no longer), tankies or whatever, I could swear I’ve seen several anti-Japanese/racist posts and the same crypto drivel you’d find on reddit.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Issues Free Update Offer To Millions Of Windows Users (ads in windows update menu)English
11·4 months agoI installed Bazzite last June. That the local account is just a fact of life made the installation process easier than Windows. KDE (the interface) feels snappier than Windows. Also, the auto-hide Start menu doesn’t get stuck anymore. The Win 11 Start menu won’t hide when you want them to, and hides when you didn’t want it to every single time you accidentally move the mouse cursor to the bottom. I hate that I had to reach for the keyboard every time, while watching videos and such. That drove me nuts. When your wi-fi or bluetooth is not working, Win10 and 11 love to pretend they don’t exist, so you can’t fix them unless you reboot. So many things they can fix, but most of their project teams are probably focused on adding new bullshit or integrating Office/Teams/Copilot into everything, because the OS is no longer the product.

11·4 months agoThere is no god. No amount of looking for it would be enough. I was already doubtful beforehand. Having grown up conservatively, I kind of already knew it was all fake, but the deprogramming took a while.

Games@lemmy.world•Mastercard release a statement about game stores, payment processors and adult contentEnglish
11·4 months agoWhy use Mastercard as an excuse to move to crypto? You can’t generalize the problems of the current monetary system because of the actions of a few. Crypto’s impact is high? It is a non-essential. Many cryptos don’t matter. And bitcoin, as the one people gravitate towards, is awful for the environment, for something that is a non-essential (and not even a practical currency).

For almost 20 years, I’ve never lost hours of work due to the OS. The Crowdstrike incident was one of three times I was interrupted by the OS in the last 2,3 years. All of the interruptions are from Windows 11, not 10. This week for, for some reason, Windows is slower to respond than usual, when going to different tasks. I’m one formatting away from getting rid of the Windows 11 in my laptop. I was thinking of dual booting Mint there but it’s looking more and more I don’t need Windows. Bazzite has been fantastic.
