I think I see what you’re saying. My gripe is that if I want a laptop/tablet with a great ARM chip, with long battery life, my options all force me to use one of two operating systems that I’d prefer not to use for ideological reasons. If I’m forced to use one, because I want an ARM device, I might as well use the one that has the best hardware. M5s are right around the corner and the MacBook Airs are really competitive.

If I misinterpreted your question, then no, as far as I’m aware, none of the M series has FULL support. The M1s and M2s are pretty close though.

Let me know when these X elite chips have full Linux compatibility and then I’ll be interested. Until then, I’ll stick with Mac, it has the better hardware.

Shapr3D has been pretty decent and for a hobbiest, $300/yr for their pro version has been tolerable

Edit: I see at least a few people don’t like Shapr3D so I’ll add to my description a little bit because I think it’s great for what I do. Shapr3D has a free tier, is cheaper than programs like Fusion360, Solidworks, Sketchup, etc., has apps for the iPad and desktop, recently added parametric features that OP requested, and is faster (on my machines) than Fusion360 and Sketchup. I haven’t gotten to the point where I’m designing complicated parts that move relative to one another (maybe it can’t do that, I don’t know). I usually just recreate single plastic parts that break around the house or designs for something I’m fabricating. It’s been great for those use cases. It’s also free for students with a school email.

To go along with that, Telegram doesn’t make it easy to set up an encrypted chat. First, you have to set up a regular chat, then tap on the profile image of the person you are messaging, then tap the 3 dot menu, and finally tap “secret chat”. It’s there but they clearly don’t want people using it.

If you know iptables, just stick with that. In my testing, docker containers seem to ignore ufw rules. Supposedly, iptable rules are respected but I haven’t learned iptables yet so I can’t verify.

I don’t know what the fuck is going on. The client app connects to all 4 servers it needs a connection to. I can create a user on the server and all clients can login using it, I just can’t get notes to sync.

Tutorial2 makes this one port change to the official docker compose file but otherwise is seemingly the same as tutorial1:

With that change, and setting the port of the domain to 9090, I can access minio in the browser. But I don’t know if that’s necessary or not. I’m stumped.

Did you by chance self host the sync server using docker compose? Their instructions aren’t great and I was hoping you had some tips.

For anyone else interested, if I figure it out, I’ll post what I did here.

Edit 1: I finally got it all setup but syncing isn’t working so I guess I did something wrong 🙄 . Troubleshooting now

SerpentOS is it’s own thing. It’s from the same guy who made Solus which was also it’s own thing.

I appreciate what KDE is doing with their DE, I’m glad it exists but it’s not for me either. I only suggest it because it’s surprisingly light on resources for the amount of customization options you get.

Since it’s your first time, my first suggestion is to try Xubuntu (Ubuntu with XFCE desktop) or Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE desktop and generally more popular than Xubuntu). Both distributions are lighter on resources and they have an Ubuntu base which means there’s a ton of documentation online so if you run into problems, you will have plenty of resources.

Alpine is small for sure but it is more niche and it doesn’t use systemd which most major distributions use which means if you happen to run into weird issues, your pool of resources will be smaller. Don’t get me wrong, Alpine is great but I wouldn’t recommend it for new users. I don’t know anything about Puppy Linux; maybe it’s fine?

If your machine can’t run Xubuntu or Kubuntu, then worry about trying more niche distros like Alpine or Puppy.

If you run into issues, feel free to ask questions. The community is generally nice but you’ll want to try fixing it yourself first and then including what you tried in your post to get a better reception.

Embrace the terminal. It’s daunting at first but it’s such a powerful tool. Don’t use sudo with every command. Don’t paste random command in the terminal without doing a little research to understand what they do. Again, ask if you need help, you won’t learn everything overnight.
