Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much of a game changer was USB-C for you, compared to other cables?
1·1 year agoDepends on if it is still using USB 2.0 or 3.0+ standard for data transfer. I love the mostly plug it in way you like option Ivey micro usb, but trying to do photo file transfers from older/cheaper USB C with 2.0 is brutally slow if needed.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Trying to avoid US elections content as a non-US citizen. Is this possible on the default Lemmy-UI? I prefer it over Tesseract and Voyager (which have built-in keyword filters)English
15·1 year agoThere doesn’t seem to be as much overflowing into non political communities here as at reddit where it’s just overflowing everywhere I find. I think it’s a reflecting of the anxiety many are feeling about the election. Hopefully it dies down in a couple of weeks.

I ended up on this last year as I was exploring the South West. I found it confusing even as a Canadian.
I then later was confusion when Google Maps told me to go 80 on Hwy 10 in Texas once I came up from Big Bend NP. I thought the GPS was confused. 80 kms on the highway in the US? It was then I realized I wasn’t in Oregon anymore with their 60 mph highways. Texas goes fast and even 80 mph isn’t enough for most people. Even the single lane highways with construction workers was 65 mph work zones in Texas.
It was the most amount of road kill I’ve ever seen in all my travels. I think at one stage a herd of goats must of tried to cross the highway based on the carnage I came across. I finally understood the reason for the huge bumpers on the front of trucks in Texas now.
There’s public washrooms like this in a mall in Seattle, or at least there was a few years back. Half height stalls. When one is sitting the walls only come up to your elbows. One of the most bizarre setups for a public bathroom I’ve seen in my travels.

65·2 years agoWell based on the American consumer trends they will basically eat anything that remotely looks or smells like food so I’m sure some cost cutting accountant thought this was a good idea…
Wait until they replace them with plastic alternatives with a food like coating in the years ahead…
For me coming from the Westcoast with lots of rain at sea level the lack of drain fields around the houses in the Prairies was a similar moment for me when I was looking at homes for a move many years ago. Their drain spouts just run out into the yard above the ground. It was a what the heck is going on here?
Their basements are also fully enclosed under ground. On the coast we require a secondary drain field just for the down spouts and the basements are only halfway in the ground so it was very strange to me.

ps I say this as I’ve only read 2 of the books pictured and War and Peace wasn’t among them.
Seems like many want this so badly…
Love it. I never thought much of the scene again then every once in awhile the gf will do this tsss tsss and we both laugh.
She also breaks out with the dinosaur train song every now and again too so it just proves things can stick differently for all of us
I have to wonder what the scar lines from the various transplants and hair tucks would look like.
I’ve read he’s had a lot done to close the gap and make the George Constanza Ceasar’s crown into a full head of hair. That’s a lot of ground to pull up over. I don’t think it would look so smooth.
I can’t even imagine how much time he needs to spend each morning to get that thing ready for the public. That’s a lot of hairspray. Combine that with the orange spray tan and the makeup it’s not a 5 minute job.

There are social media videos I seen where the cheaper brands of ice cream no longer melt, even after days of sitting on the counter. Same for the cheap ice cream sandwiches. Days and they don’t lose their shape.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they no longer need refrigeration beyond the preference of enjoying it cold versus warm.
Many parts of the EU often has North American travellers amazed how well they feel while eating *there during their vacations and how awful they feel when coming back to the north American diet. What’s a few chemicals many will say.
It just seems everything from bread to pasta, dairy, meat, desserts etc doesn’t seem to make you feel as awful as north American food can.
I love *Haagen Dazs vanilla bean ice cream. It’s not the cheapest but it’s one of the cleanest I can find among the big brands. Walmart etc usually has it the cheapest.
