The SMB thing was a feature, we had a SMB share in our neighborhood LAN/shared internet access with totally legal movie copies (and sporadically also bestiality material because that was those guys’ idea of comedy)

The next move is probably them selling solar “subscriptions” where you don’t pay the full price of panels/storage but instead pay a monthly fee that works out to way more than the cost of installation in the long run

There’s plethora of resources if you want to make your Linux install even more secure than the defaults (so-called “hardening”)
tbh even running pi-hole on your network goes a long way
It’s better than spreading fucking anti-personnel mines on your own territory
