Once upon a time SimpleX was spammed all over Reddit. This went on for months. I just can’t trust a developer that would do such a thing and I’ll never use this.

It’s safe. It’s more likely the website will get breached v your device.

Perhaps don’t use your home wifi for this. Library, coffee shop are good options.

I use Mullvad and it has categories of blocking - ads, trackers, malware, social media, porn, and gambling - but no custom blocking as far as I know. If you want to look at their blocklists https://github.com/mullvad/dns-blocklists#custom-dns-entries

Some VPNs have DNS blocking which will keep the user off a site known to contain malware.
