I tried using the translation button, but it didn’t seem to work as expected. The post page reloaded, but the description just went away.

I agree that translation isn’t working right in all cases. I have run across cases where translation also results in empty content and there is an open issue or two about translation issues (example).
The content disappears when you hit the translate button because it is supposed to remove the content being translated and then swap in the translation it gets back from the libretranslate server. When something breaks down on the second half of that, then there isn’t anything to swap back in.
Good to know it’s being documented, and thank you for the response. It’s still an exciting feature and one I think I’d use pretty often if/when it works right!
I’ve added support for Dutch, that should fix it. Also I added Italian, Portuguese and Polish.
PieFed.social now provides translation for the 10 most commonly used languages on the threadiverse.

Possibly a stale cache… Try translating a different post/comment?
