Linux@lemmy.ml•How dare you use a text editor because it's easy to use
111·1 year agoMeanwhile I can just use the same shortcuts every other program made in the last 40 years uses.
Ctrl+Qto quit,Ctrl+Sto save,Ctrl+Zfor undo. If I wanted to consult a cheatsheet to relearn keyboard shortcuts, I’ll use vim and emacs.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How dare you use a text editor because it's easy to useEnglish
141·1 year agoNano isn’t even that simple.
Ctrl+Xto quit? I guess if you use phonetic sounds to figure out how to exit a program. At least Vim uses the idea of “use what the words start with.”I personally use micro in the terminal, and Kate if I want a GUI to write. Vim and Emacs are fine for those who want it, I have no stakes in the editor wars beyond “I just want my program to do what I want, and I want it to be simple to learn.”
The fact that most people assume Arch is a broken mess because of a meme is wild. Same people would think Linux is impossible to use if they used Windows still.
If one person he is insanely focused on made a joke about him breathing too much, and they saw people laughing at it, he would. Instantly without second thought, because he never had a first thought.
Can’t wait until he just dies from his own incompetence.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do people's pets tell you about them?
739·1 year agoIf they don’t like cats because you can’t train a cat, and/or cats seemingly hate them, I consider it a warning sign they want people to obey them rather than exist with them.
Cats can’t be trained like a dog. So when people complain about that and don’t like them for that, I consider it a sign of “I want you to obey me, don’t question it.”
And then blamed for ruining the 2016 American election.
Snowden showed the government was spying, had to flee, deemed a terrorist. Assange showed the government disobeys the laws it enforces on everyone else, deemed a terrorist. Manning showed that war crimes are constant, deemed a terrorist, subjected to inhumane torture.
Every time a whistleblower exposes corruption and violations of laws in every country, they are punished. China, Russia, America, England, they’re all guilty of it.

pics@lemmy.world•Progress: the Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas, spans across 26 lanes making it the worlds widest. The freeway is broken down in to 12 main lanes (six in each direction), eight feeder lanes.

If someone is aware of piracy and doesn’t care: “I don’t really know, I just got it off of a torrent site.”
If someone is aware of piracy and cares too much for a company they don’t work for: You can ignore them.

Linux@lemmy.ml•This week in KDE: Final Plasma 6.1 polishing and new features for 6.2
101·1 year agoGenuinely feels great to be hopeful about some parts of technology/software like this. I eagerly look forward to an update from KDE and sometimes GNOME.
Compare that to Google, Microsoft, any other public big tech, I start to just question why I’m not living in the forest as a new member of a Bigfoot extended family.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do Orbit chewing gums fall apart in your mouth when you stop chewing them?
71·2 years agoYeah after a long, long time chewing, it turns into a paste. I learned this when I was forced to keep a piece in my mouth for hours beside my mom thought it was disrespectful to some event to go to a trash can.
But yeah, I think all gums do this. Just due to the gum’s chemicals mixing with your saliva. All foods do this at some point.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Funny, those guys don't usually agree on that muchEnglish
2411·2 years agoConservatives, fascists, and Auth-Communists just disagree on what color the flag should be, and the name of the party in charge handing out the police to dispatch onto the people.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Funny, those guys don't usually agree on that muchEnglish
368·2 years agoYeah Tankies/AuthComs are just such an odd mixture of accelerationists, “own the libs” and just general stupidity of “a strong man makes strong men” bullshit that they support any fascist if it means maybe someday they might not be on the chopping block.
If Tankies were an actual voting bloc they’d be somewhat impactful for the first time since maybe 1949. That would imply going outside however.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Funny, those guys don't usually agree on that muchEnglish
306·2 years agoIt’s really funny how no one really likes liberals but liberals.
Conservatives: “They’re too freedom loving for my tastes! Why can’t they just stay and home and be good corporate stooges like us?”
Auth-Communists: “They claim to like freedom but still willingly use the capitalist forces to oppress who they like. Liberals are okay with personal freedom until it impacts the white moderates.
That’s our job!”Anarchists: “It’s literally weird to call yourself a liberal when all they do is oppose any movement against the status quo. If they can’t convert them to sell away their soul to the state or capitalism, they’re terrorists. They’re more like conservatives than any actual progressives, and even progressives admit 100% capitalism isn’t great.”
Libertarian capitalists: “They claim to be for freedom but constantly require the state to check in on if people are enjoying their freedom like that Nanny’s they never had. I just wanna grill for god’s sake!”
Like it’s just funny to me no matter where you are on the political spectrum, you have a somewhat decent reason to hate liberals (except conservatives are too stupid to tell liberals apart from “commies”).
God forbid women do anything!

Memes@lemmy.ml•You're treading a fine line Mr. Tim AppleEnglish
161·2 years agoThey are one and the same. If you knew where to look, they provided means.
Tools are agnostic to their use. Tools do not have a preference how they are used. Hammers that are used are agnostic to if they are hammering a nail into a wall or caving in a skull. Yuzu would work exactly the same if you dumped your own carts. Same for emulators for Genesis and Atari 2600 and PlayStation.
What’s wrong with Twitter? You could also just google this and find the information yourself, don’t know why I have to provide what should be common knowledge on this subject.
If you make a claim, you need to provide the evidence. That’s how these things work. You say a claim, you give us the proof. And I can say on Twitter “Yuzu was 100000% legal and Nintendo actually is the real illegal operation”. Now that’s a valid source too, right?
They were not a legal emulator, full stop, sorry.

Sorry but that biggest technology legal experts and defenders of the little guys who get sued by the big companies you polish the boots with your tongue strongly prove you wrong.
- Attend Churches where pastors and preachers proselytize about anything “Sinful”
- Call themselves Christian proudly
- Wears crosses
- Says its forbidden by God to do something that the Bible says is bad
- Uses the words of Saint Paul to expand on those words
Damn that sounds like they are Christian, but you know, I guess they’re “not true Christians” because they happen to do everything on Saturday instead of Sunday, or don’t wash the feet of the poor, or something else that caused a schism 200 years ago.

Brainwashing.
