If the government is shut down, all the new things are just different ways in which the government shutdown is breaking stuff. No healthcare. No SNAP. Furloughed workers. Airports without air traffic control. It was a rut for Republicans since the 24hr news cycle couldn’t move past the shutdown. Then Democrats went and handed them a ladder because they’re abysmal at doing politics.
And the Epstein files play into the conspiracy brain that has been cultivated in the right wing mind for so long. 24hr news cycle moving on from the story feels like the media trying to bury the story, which feeds into that conspiracism even more. And since this isn’t a made up conspiracy theory, right wingers can’t control the narrative as well as they usually do. There’s a reality to run up against. Everyone already knows who Epstein was and what he did. Trump is obviously implicated. And the House leader has shut down the entire House to prevent the Epstein files from making any progress towards a public release. That obviously feeds into the conspiracy that the files are damning and powerful people are working together to cover it up. I think Marjorie Taylor Green recently announced she’s quitting her current public office role as a result of backlash from wanting to see the Epstein files released and fighting with Trump over it. These are wedge issues that don’t work in Republicans’ favor.
I ran on Bazzite during the server slam right before release with few issues that I ended up sorting out. Their discord is very helpful and had a dedicated Linux support channel (I imagine there is a similar dedicated channel now that the game has fully released). Embark Studios has also stated that while they don’t officially support Linux, they do support it on a best-effort basis and partner with a testing company that tests the game on Linux via Proton, so I wouldn’t expect it to suddenly stop working any time soon.
I’ve had this issue and for me using earlyoom helped. My computer ram would fill up and the kernel oom killer wouldn’t trip in time to be helpful. It could just be your memory filling up and your computer not killing the offending process in time.
As a Pixel 6 Pro user who occasionally has to interact with the Samsung devices my parents use, holy moly I don’t know how anybody puts up with this. We’re talking fullscreen advertisement lockscreen bloatware that can be disabled but not uninstalled, added to the phone out of nowhere with a recent update. The worst android keyboard I’ve ever used in my life. A UI and all of Samsung’s versions of existing apps that I’m constantly fighting just to use the phone. It’s ridiculous. I genuinely don’t know how anyone can run a Samsung device without installing a custom ROM or something it’s actually insane.

I use a plugin for Jellyfin (which I believe is available by default you just have to click the install option on the plugins page in your Dashboard) and manually download subtitles through the subtitles menu for an item if what I download doesn’t include them.

It supports more codecs and I believe can store more tracks compared to MP4. Whenever I download a high quality movie or tv show, especially if it has multiple audio tracks and subtitles to choose from, it is always packaged in .mkv

It’s not altruistic, but the blog post outlines why they’re doing this. Underappreciated volunteer-run dependencies can have security flaws that impact huge swaths of the tech sector. Investing a few grand now to secure those tools instead of significantly more money to do damage control after a vulnerability is found and exploited makes sense. It’s a preventative measure that benefits the entire industry, GitHub and its parent company Microsoft included.
itch capitulated in like the worst way what do you mean. they nuked a bunch of stuff and stole money that they hadnt paid out to creators yet even for non-delisted games. itch is hardly “fighting censorship” in that regard. dont bother boycotting them or steam though. call visa and mastercard daily to pester them about their recent changes that have affected digital storefronts and dont let up until they reverse course. thats where your pressure will make a difference. three people refusing to buy from steam anymore will do nothing at all.
It’s gotten so bad the past year especially. I often open an incognito tab to look something up or watch a video without affecting my recommendations, and every time I do, the logged out YouTube recommendations are worse and worse. Genuine bottom of the barrel fuck shit dog ass slop. If it was illegal to produce slop like this I genuinely think the world would be a slightly better place (or even just making it illegal to monetize it).
