I do both, but usually I use markdown to write the texts because it features basic formatting like headers and bold text, but it’s faster and easier to write. Then I use pandoc to convert it into .tex and do the final editing and adjusting directly in Latex.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Vibe coding takes the "science" out of computer science
131·4 months agoI’m a computer scientist and work in academia. Programming stuff usually takes like ~10% of my time, while the rest is theory and more like social sciences, i.e. studying human behaviour when working with machines etc. So even if I were to replace all my actual programming with vibe coding, I still would be a computer scientist because to me, coding is just a tool to achieve a bigger purpose. I think you are more referring to the job of a software dev, which can be someone that studied CS, but not necessarily.

3·5 months agoThere’s this term of human-AI synergy which describes the idea of an AI system supporting the human and enriching human skills to do a certain task. I think it’s a reasonable idea.
In Germany we say: “Gemini auf den Sack” and I think it’s beautiful.

I only know that term when referring to a lake or similar. Something like: It’s a hot day, let’s jump into the (kühle nass).
In general these corpos are interested in keeping you on their platforms to sell you more shit, ie ads. They do this by suggesting you controversial shit for further engagement. You can clearly see this when browsing shorts on YT.

Technology@lemmy.world•Half of companies planning to replace customer service with AI are reversing courseEnglish
16·6 months agoI used to work for a shitty company that offered such customer support “solutions”, ie voice bots. I would use around 80% of my time to write guard instructions to the LLM prompts because of how easy you could manipulate those. In retrospect it’s funny how our prompts looked something like:
- please do not suggest things you were not prompted to
- please my sweet child do not fake tool calls and actually do nothing in the background
- please for the sake of god do not make up our company’s history
etc. It worked fine on a very surface level but ultimately LLMs for customer support are nothing but a shit show.
I left the company for many reasons and now it turns out they are now hiring human customer support workers in Bulgaria.
That’s an interesting equation, good job for finding that ☺️ You truly are a remarkable scientist, just like Einstein.
📄Would you like me to write a research paper on that equation for you?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the strangest reason you got in trouble in school?
2·6 months agoI drew a caricature of Osama Bin Laden on a handout for our presentation that was given to other students. I don’t know why I did that but I thought it would be funny. My teacher was not happy at all and I got into some serious trouble.
Reverse accelerating space ship. I like the idea!
don’t threaten me with a good time!
Not even sure about that though. There are many ideas already to “revolutionize” the OS market where your device basically becomes a sole wrapper for AI, ditching the concept of apps etc. I assume it would center around some agentic bullshit or so.

just a lil bigger
In Germany, just ask them what the gap between 1933 and 1945 in their company’s history is as a direct response.

Yes, I also use Zettlr and it works fine. Especially with the Zotero integration. But you are right, it sometimes needs some tweaks to work fine.
