Thawing in brine with one of those igloo coolers is going to improve my life so much next year.
I also really like the gravy prep and cooking on a wire rack above the gravy ingredients.
The spinning platform with those fans is such a cool idea also.
Thank you for sharing he had an update
Probably an express lane that allows through traffic to not need to deal with on-ramp/off-ramp congestion
I knew to go retrieve the bottle bag for her, I never asked what was in it and she didn’t offer. It was I little Velcro bag that had long cloth things on either end for her service dog to pick up with his mouth from either side to pull out of her purse or bag so I never saw the actual pill bottle(s). Just a quick, if something goes down I need you to grab this bag for me and shove it into my right hand. I said you got it and that was kind of the end of it. Guess I figured if she wanted to talk about it more she would have initiated a discussion. She always got questions and pestering about her service dog being around as it was already so I kind of felt like being a good friend to her was just being someone that was there for her without all the questions. I haven’t talked to her in years though so maybe not, idk.

7·10 days agoI love this because of how often a squirrel would take down our remote disaster recovery site.
I had a friend whose service animal was trained to get her pill container from her purse or bag and bring it to her if she collapsed or otherwise called for them. Not sure what they were, never really asked or talked about it since she never initiated the topic but it was apparently sufficiently life threatening if she were to lose stability in a manner where she couldn’t take her medicine shortly after. I only really knew because there were some rooms her service animal was not authorized to enter and I would fulfill that role for her in those situations.
Plants vs zombies battle for neighborvile or something like that.
I’m wring the book in spurts of hyper focus, with days or weeks between these, of course.
That’s so ADHD of you

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do you need, want and/or have a gun/guns?
3·13 days agoWant, we have coyotes and I have a small dog. They usually stay away when I’m around but the last time they barely turned tail once I aggressively went to engage them after picking my dog up. He’s always on a leash but I feel more comfortable carrying a .22 with me when we go out after dark during the winter after that last encounter.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Scientists Created a Bulletproof Material 3 Times Stronger Than Kevlar—It’s Already Breaking Records
8·18 days agoTrauma pads could be used but distributing the impact so it’s blunt force trauma instead of a bullet wound is going to be significantly less deadly. A helmet has room between the skull and cap. A lot of times people won’t even wear all their Kevlar because weight, heat, and mobility. First goal is to stay alive so you have to be able to function in addition to surviving a round.

I completely understand bad parents, I’m no contact with mine for much different reasons so I can’t directly relate but I can empathize a bit I think. I appreciate you sharing your story and I’m glad nothing happened with that gal while you were so young. Thank you for sharing the story, feels kind of comforting in a way that also makes me feel like shit for feeling comfort in hearing about others stories/situations.
The scarier part to me I think is that you absolutely could have. My cousin was in middle school in the 90’s, he graduated high school in 2001 at 18 for context. My aunt and uncle were divorced and would drop him off at the airport to fly to each other on the other side of the country. He was like six or seven when they started and it went on for a decade until his dad moved back close to graduation.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most impressive video game mod you've ever come across?
1·1 month agoThat reminds me of all the effort that was being put into rebuilding SWG. I loved that game, I hopped on and played the rebuild a few times over the years, I should check out if it was ever completed.

2·1 month agoThank you, I’ll need to look into it, it was obvious they were synced because they got adjusted for daylight savings from somewhere and they all slowly changed time over the course of an hour if I recall correctly, it always fascinated me.

I’ve gotten better every year. I always tell the family while I’m cooking, Alton Brown said to do it this way. I’m not much of a cook but it feels really nice how much they love the turkey I’m able to make so much that it’s become my task every year.
Edit: I was brining the turkey but not starting while frozen. I’m really excited to try this new method.
