That rage was why I switched lol. All our work computers are on 11 and they frequently reset so almost every time I log in I get to freshly rage and spend a minute resetting the task bar and default adobe to the pdf reader.
No Microsoft! I cant use edge as a pdf editor why on earth would you think that.
AND WHY CANT I MOVE THE TASKBAR

Technology@lemmy.world•Windows 11's adoption is much slower compared to Windows 10, claims DellEnglish
3·11 days agoRemember when Microsoft said windows 10 was going to be the last major windows version and they were just going to support it forever with rolling updates, and then later said they never said that.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Rustdesk's lesser known featuresEnglish
71·13 days agoIve been wanting to try out rust desk for a few weeks now but im not currently in a position where I can test it out.
I saw it uses a public relay server and they have a subscription model to self host, and I’m not particularly interested in either of those options. Are you able to self host a server for free if youre just connecting to a single computer?
Similar, one of my coworkers once got a roll of ‘voice activated’ stickers and put them on all the paper towel dispensers in the bathroom. Apparently the LT made a fool of himself yelling at one later that day and we all got yelled at for it. Totally worth it lol.
I’m still looking around, but maybe sonic and Sega all stars or things on wheels?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•James Bond is responsible for many wasted vodka martinis
1·8 months agoIt’s funny because I’ve seen people say before that wine is completely subjective. The price has no bearing on flavor. If you like it you like it.

2·8 months agoFalse, the gins ego is bruised that someone would order an inferior vodka martini.
There is a philip k dick short story called ‘the skull’ about a time traveler sent back in time to kill Jesus that was very interesting.

8·9 months agoAt this point it’s a self fulfilling prophecy, no one expects Google products to last so they don’t use them and because no one uses them they don’t last. Which sucks because the products themselves are usually pretty solid.

2·9 months agoLol right? I bounced off ss2 a couple times because it was too scary for younger me. A few years later I got the itch to give it another go, but I had to downgrade my graphics drivers to get it to run on my system so I forced myself to finish it that time lol

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If mind uploading was successfully achieved, would the virtual "you" truly still be you?
5·10 months agoI suppose it really depends on figuring out what consciousness really is.
If we’re talking about pure digital information then nothing is actually moved, it’s just copied and written to a new location. From the perspective of the new mind, continuity would be preserved and it would think it had simply changed places. The old mind (if it survives the scanning/transfer process) would still be outside the simulation and see a new copy of itself in there.
On the other hand, if consciousness is some kind of understandable phenomena, with even more sci-fi tech we might be able to simply scoop it out and put it somewhere else. In that case it would be the same person.

But realistically, and specifically OPs scenario, it doesn’t matter because there’s literally nothing you can do about it except try to be better than you were yesterday.

Super fun to think one could end up softlocked out of their computer because they didnt pay their windows bill that month.
